As for now, a day before one of the world’s oldest and largest fairs officially opens, the IFA, takes off in Berlin, gadget lovers worldwide know one thing for sure: They can expect the unexpected at the fair, be it for LCD TVs, mobile phones, audio systems, washers, dryers, refrigerators; name it and there’s something new in everything. All things good being done, one of the major concerns that are likely to drive the forum, is the oh-so-new but definitely welcome fashion statement of the tech world: energy-efficient technology.
That’s definitely likely to be the pitch of debate, but suspicion-minded debators better get their doubts completely cleared before they enter the fair, as tech-manufacturers, atleast the major ones are all set to come with the necessary shield to protect themselves.
For starters, Siemens executive Roland Hagebucher said these would include a dishwasher that uses a zeolite mineral to speed up drying of pots and plates, also cutting power use. Clothes dryers, which are notoriously thirsty on power, have also had a makeover. I can see the power-packed electricity bill transmitting some of its power to the smile on my face.
Bosch claims its EcoLoggixx 7 model, which uses heat-pump technology, uses 40 percent less power than dryers currently rated as environmentally friendly under European Union standards.
Reinhard Zinkann, who heads the home-appliances section of Germany’s ZVEI electrical industry federation, said: “Appliance sales are going in opposing directions in Europe right now. Sales are declining in major markets such as Italy, Spain and Britain, whereas they are gaining in France and Eastern Europe. Wonder why that’s happening. Maybe you should visit the forum for answers (smiles).
If you haven’t had much to do with that grin on your faces, there are likely to be cameras on show that will capture a pic of you when you’re looking your stunning best, rather than when you’re frowning or picking your nose.
Apparently, last year exhibitors made some $4.07 billion in orders from merchants. Now, I can’t even imagine, how much that is going to get outstripped this year.
