Tablet computers, powerful docking solutions, baby monitoring systems with integrated USB and video as well as locating systems with fall detector function – at IFA 2011 in Berlin, Germany, Hong Kong’s manufacturers will be presenting numerous new developments for home, office and leisure time.

At the combined stand organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), 28 exhibitors (2010: 55) will be present in Hall 26C (Stand 800). Another 33 companies (2010: 26) will be highlighting their products in a special showcase area.

Electronic products from Hong Kong continue to be in demand worldwide: The electronics industry contributed 56 % to Hong Kong’s exports in 2010. Overall, the metropolis exported electronic equipment and components of around USD 217 billion, an increase of 28 % in comparison to 2009. The most important export markets were China, USA, Japan, Taiwan, Korea and in sixth place Germany (2010: USD 4 billion, + 27 %). The growth also continued in the first half of 2011: At around USD 115 billion, total electronic exports rose by 14 %. Hong Kong’s manufacturers see further potential in the rising demand for tablet computers, smartphones, computer accessories with higher data transfer rates such as USB 3.0 as well as 3D and Blu-ray appliances.

From multimedia to valuable assistants

Marvel Digital Limited presents well-priced tablet computers with numerous multimedia applications. Their TBT-10C 7 mercury pad tablet provides amongst others USB connection and integrated camera. All standard audio and video formats as well as Office files are supported. The flat 7-inch appliance weights just 510 grams.

The MP-G7 from Arena Scientific is a media-gate digital entertainment device on android basis with a powerful ARM processor operating at very low noise. The device can be used for playing films in full HD, listening to music, gaming, photo albums and communicating through social networks. An office package is also pre-installed.

High performance and convincing design characterise docking stations like the tower sound-bar (KW-HT001iPH) from Kenwin Industrial (HK) Ltd. It offers 100 watt loudspeakers, a built-in sub-woofer, iPhone, iPad and iPod docking station, LCD display, digital FM radio, time clock, surround sound and USB connection.

Aviton Care Limited offers support in everyday life. The AV07087 locator has a fall detector function making it particularly suitable for senior citizens. If the user falls over, an emergency signal is triggered and the position of the person is transmitted by SMS. The GPS function offers three programs and the exact position of a person in need of help can be displayed on a PC or an internet-capable mobile phone.

The UV vacuum cleaner Magic Plus with cyclone filter technology from JST Industrial Co. Ltd uses high-power UV light to eliminate germs, bacteria, dust mites and other harmful microorganisms.

HARMAN, the premium audio and infotainment group (NYSE:HAR), today announced that it was reorganizing its businesses in order to accelerate earnings growth opportunities and better align with consumer lifestyle preferences. While the Company’s Professional Division will remain largely unaffected, the Company will reorganize its Automotive and Consumer Divisions to create two new Divisions, Lifestyle and Infotainment.

Dinesh Paliwal, Chairman, President and CEO, commented “Consumers want simplicity, seamless portability and sound integration that fits their lifestyle. There is a clear convergence happening among consumer devices in the home, office, car and everywhere in between. Consumers no longer view these locations and personal mobile devices as separate domains, but as one, continuous ecosystem where the delivery of information and entertainment should flow seamlessly between them, anytime, anywhere, anyplace. While this is made possible by, among other things, the dramatic increases in available bandwidth and cloud-based serving of content, HARMAN is in a unique position to tie these technologies together and deliver products that provide the seamless digital ecosystem consumers are demanding.”

Mr. Paliwal continued, “Over the past few years we have made great progress in creating efficiency throughout our organization and in developing a world-class infrastructure. We have eliminated over $400 million of unnecessary costs, optimized our global footprint, and positioned our business for growth. It is now time to align our company to best address a future that will be driven by advanced technologies in content creation, aggregation, distribution, and seamless delivery and connectivity among multiple devices. HARMAN continues to invest in creating software-driven solutions that distinguish us from our competitors combined with the strength of a world-class portfolio of consumer brands.”

With more than $1 billion in revenue, and double-digit operating margins, HARMAN’s new Lifestyle Division, with the AKG®, Harman Kardon®, JBL®, Mark Levinson®, Infinity®, and Lexicon brands®, has the scale and resources to generate additional growth opportunities. As a result of this reorganization, the new global Lifestyle Division will be able to create both operating and revenue synergies. From an operational perspective, the Company will better leverage consumer research, technology trends, R&D, and procurement. From a revenue perspective, the Company will integrate its brand marketing across vertical markets, channels, and customers in all geographies focused on serving the same end-user, the consumer.

The Company believes that it will create additional growth by combining the infrastructure and capabilities of its luxury home audio business with its market-leading position in branded car audio systems, which are featured in the premium vehicle segments of: BMW, Chrysler, Ferrari, Fiat, GM, Harley-Davidson, Hyundai, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus, Mercedes Benz, Rolls Royce, Subaru and Toyota.

To increase automotive audio take rates and lifestyle product sales, the Company will launch a new, integrated marketing campaign that creates synergy between its automotive and consumer products and brands, featuring global celebrity artists using Harman products. More details on the campaign and the artists involved will be presented at the IFA show in Berlin, Germany early September 2011.

The Company’s new Infotainment Division encompasses technology solutions for navigation, hands free telephony, Internet and wireless connectivity, and a myriad of in-vehicle safety systems including camera, infrared, and laser technologies. HARMAN’s leadership in mobile device and systems integration as well as applications that safely enable social media in the car environment positions the company for increased penetration in the growing infotainment market. Strategy Analytics predicts that one in every five cars produced worldwide in 2015, or 21M new vehicles, will have an infotainment system. This is almost double the 11M infotainment-equipped vehicles produced in 2010. This represents a 5-year compound annual growth rate of 14%.

This stand-alone division, with revenues of approximately $2.1 billion, will benefit from a focused management structure that will further improve operating profitability. Harman is a market leader in premium infotainment systems, serving Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Ferrari, Fiat, Hyundai, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Peugeot, Toyota, Volvo and Volkswagen.

On an unaudited basis, giving effect to the new segments, the Company believes that in Fiscal 2011 it would approximately have reported: Lifestyle revenues of $1.1 billion with 10% EBIT; Infotainment revenues of $2.1 billion with 4.2% EBIT; and Professional revenues of $0.6 billion with 15.8% EBIT.

About HARMAN

HARMAN (www.harman.com) designs, manufactures and markets a wide range of audio and infotainment solutions for the automotive, consumer and professional markets – supported by 15 leading brands including AKG®, Harman Kardon®, Infinity®, JBL®, Lexicon® and Mark Levinson®. The Company is admired by audiophiles across multiple generations and supports leading professional entertainers and the venues where they perform. More than 20 million automobiles on the road today are equipped with HARMAN audio and infotainment systems. HARMAN has a workforce of about 12,000 people across the Americas, Europe and Asia, and reported sales of $3.8 billion for the twelve months ending June 30, 2011. The Company’s shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol NYSE:HAR.

Anue Systems, an industry leader in network visibility systems, announced the availability of advanced packet processing features for its Net Tool Optimizer (NTO) 5200 series. The advanced features help network engineers significantly improve monitoring tool performance.

IT organizations face the challenges of maintaining the robustness and security of their network. To meet these challenges, they deploy an ever increasing number of network monitoring tools, including IDS/IPS systems and network recorders. Each monitoring tool requires access to the data traversing the network, which is typically achieved by connecting the tools via a TAP or SPAN port. However, many monitoring tools only need specific portions of the data for analysis. Indiscriminately sending the complete data stream to each monitoring tool effectively lowers the performance.

The Anue NTO provides four advanced packet processing features to help IT organizations improve network monitoring tool performance.

Packet De-Duplication improves tool bandwidth by eliminating duplicate data packets generated from redundant SPAN ports before those packets reach monitoring tools
Extended Burst Protection ensures complete packet delivery to tools by preventing dropped packets when aggregating multiple network streams into a single 1G stream
MPLS Stripping enables non-MPLS capable monitoring tools to monitor data by removing MPLS labels directly from the packet stream and restoring packets to standard IPv4/6 packets
Packet Trimming improves monitoring tool bandwidth by trimming packets before they are delivered to the monitoring tool

“We listened to our customers’ problems and created a solution to help them better maintain the health of their networks,” said Keith Cheney, senior vice president at Anue Systems. “We are excited to offer robust packet de-duplication and extended burst protection, which helps network engineers get the most that they can from their monitoring tools.”

The Anue 5200 NTO series reside between network SPANs or TAPs and the monitoring tools to aggregate, filter and replicate traffic to its respective destinations. The system allows network engineers to simultaneously connect monitoring tools to multiple points on the network to increase the productivity of expensive monitoring tools. The 5200 network visibility systems ensure the delivery of the right traffic to the right tools to provide complete network visibility.

To learn more about Anue Systems and to see demonstrations of its network visibility systems, visit Booth #951 at Cisco Live (Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV, USA), which takes place July 11-14, 2011.

To see the new features in action, download the demo and select the network port with the advanced option as denoted with AFM, for Advanced Feature Module.

About Anue Systems

Anue Systems (anuesystems.com) helps network engineers and scientists monitor and test complicated networks. The Anue Net Tool Optimizer allows network engineers to effectively monitor networks by increasing network visibility, maximizing monitoring tool use and eliminating port shortages. Anue’s Test and Measurement division provides Network Emulation products that simulate real world conditions for the testing and deployment of large networks. Founded in 2002, Anue’s customers include the world’s largest corporations, communication providers and government agencies.

Olympus Integrated Technologies America, Inc. (Olympus-ITA), a leader in advanced inspection and defect review systems, introduces the latest 3DIR Metrology and Defect Review System at SEMICON West 2011, booth #1524. The system uses a confocal IR laser scanning microscopy technology for measuring post bond parameters of three dimensional stacked integrated circuits (3DS-ICs).

Confocal IR laser scanning microscopy is a non-destructive, through-silicon metrology technique that monitors a variety of post bond parameters including overlay alignment accuracy, bonding interface thickness variations, and bonding interface quality including pre- and post-bond defect inspection and review.

Automated measurement of a sampling of bonded wafer overlay alignment points will quickly characterize the wafer bonding alignment accuracy as well as provide indications of bond quality problems. Olympus’ 3DIR metrology system measures alignment points at selected die of bonded wafers, stores images and data, and summarizes results. Correlation of overlay alignment offset data to electrical yield provides the customer with an early indication of bonded wafer yield. Software tools are provided to display data in the form of vector maps for further review and analysis.

The confocal capability of the microscope allows thin optical sectioning in Z and construction of 3D images of the bonded wafer interface and structures. The 3D reconstructions can be used to create sections in the XZ plane to provide a measurable profile of an imaged structure or feature. Using the confocal capability of the microscope to take XZ measurements at various points on the wafer provides information on the bond interface thickness uniformity.

Using the system’s IR microscope imaging capability, bonded wafers are automatically scanned at low magnification. Images are stitched together to form a single wafer image. When the overlay vector map is superimposed on the scanned wafer image, correlation of many of the failed overlay measurement points to bonded interface anomalies can be seen. Because the wafer scan is done using an IR microscope, the stitched image can be viewed and zoomed for more detail. In addition, any site can be revisited and the image reviewed or rescanned and imaged using the IR microscope with objective magnifications up to 90X and 0.14um pixel resolution.

“Typically it takes several types of equipment to characterize overlay alignment accuracy, perform thickness measurements, and image the bonded interface for defect analysis,” explained Greg Baker, president of Olympus Integrated Technologies America. “The Olympus 3DIR Metrology and Defect Review system provides all these capabilities in a single SECS/GEM compliant tool.”

The Olympus-ITA system was developed through a 2-year project with SEMATECH, a consortia comprised of about 50% of the worldwide chip market.

For more information on IR laser scanning microscopy, visit the Olympus Integrated Technologies America booth #1524 at SEMICON West, Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA, from July 12-14, 2011.
