CeBIT 2010: “d6 DESIGN TO THE POWER OF SIX” special display

* Six topic areas showcase pioneering, sustainable, generation-spanning developments

For the first time with a new name (formerly known as design: driving innovation) and a new location, namely in Hall 12 at Booth A06, the “d6 DESIGN TO THE POWER OF SIX” special design display will highlight six different topic areas at this year’s CeBIT Show from March 2 to 6:

d1: design and sustainability
d2: design and sources
d3: design and universal design
d4: design and mobility
d5: design and regional + corporate characteristics
d6: design and communication

d6 is a further development of last year’s design exhibition with a special focus on technology. This new special display will serve as an outstanding platform to allow companies, designers, design organizations and universities to present the topic of design as an important factor in gaining a competitive edge in its many very different aspects. d6 aims to provide CeBIT 2010 with design-oriented inspiration – as a place for communication about the questions of the future.

Exhibits will, for example, include bicycles built from renewable raw materials (bamboo) and a water-saving shower. The Munich Technical University plans to present the first carbon car. Bauhaus TransferzentrumDESIGN from Weimar will feature regional projects on the topic of design from the state of Thuringia. In addition, there will be approx. 4,200 student entries on display from the iF concept award 2010 design competition. On March 4, the jury of the iF material award 2010 will select the prizewinners of this competition in a public judging session. CeBIT visitors can also see the winners of the universal design award 2010 here. And at a joint presentation, the strategic project entitled “niedersachsendesign” from the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economics will place a special focus on creative, innovative examples of products from Lower Saxony.

“d6 DESIGN TO THE POWER OF SIX” is a joint project organized by iF International Forum Design GmbH, Hannover and Deutsche Messe in Hannover. In addition to the presentation of different topics, the special display will also serve as a lecture forum for exhibitors and visitors to the CeBIT Show. Experts will speak on current design topics, provide information and initiate discussion on each day of the show.

A closer look at the individual topic areas:

d1: design and sustainability

Hansgrohe Deutschland Vertriebs GmbH from Schiltach will present their Raindance Showerpipe E420 with AirPower technology, a shower that significantly reduces water consumption. ONYX composites from Osnabrück will feature a bicycle – made of renewable raw materials.

On March 4, the jurors of the iF material award 2010 will select the winners of this competition at the special display in a public judging session. The competition was open to manufacturers, designers, developers, engineers and architects, who submitted their innovative entries in the categories of Materials, Products and Processes.

d2: design and sources

The approx. 4,200 entries submitted in the world’s largest design competition for up-and-coming designers, the iF concept award 2010, will be featured here. In addition, the HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hildesheim will present diploma theses on the topic of product design as well as the multiple-award-winning campaign for the Bosch Power Tools cordless screwdriver race.

d3: design and universal design

IUIC Intercultural User Interface Consulting from Undorf will showcase the “Use-Lock” – a device that prevents the unauthorized use of objects. The winners of this year’s universal design award 2010 will be honored on March 3. All of the award-winning entries will be on display for the entire run of the CeBIT Show.

d4: design and mobility

The world’s first carbon car – the Roding Roadster – was developed in the department for Industrial Design in the Faculty for Architecture at the Technical University of Munich under the direction of Prof. Fritz Frenkler. It will be presented for the first time at this special display.
