2010 NAB Show: Ambrado Features Low-Latency CODEC for Broadcast Backhaul at 2010 NAB Show

Ambrado, Inc., a global provider of HD and SD video processing solutions, released a firmware update package for their HC Series HDTV video processing systems. Part of an ongoing product strategy, the HC Series systems allow broadcasters to support MPEG-2 legacy equipment and have the ability to upgrade to H.264 as needed.

Ambrado will be demonstrating these and other solutions at NAB 2010 (April 12-15, 2010) in booth SU6612.

The Ambrado HC Series Systems feature three key capabilities which are:

* Low latency encoding (down to less than 100ms)
* System upgradability via firmware (for new features such as H.264)
* High-quality MPEG-2 video encoding and decoding

“Low latency, upgradability, and video quality are key requirements for broadcasters,” said Jeff Burgess, CEO, JB&A Distribution, “We have been taking the Ambrado solutions to the streets over the past few weeks and the customer response has been extremely positive.”

The HC Series Systems includes the HCE1604 HDTV Encoder and the HCD1604 HDTV Decoder which are broadcast-grade systems yet portable devices (7.5 lbs.) that can also be battery-powered if needed. These systems can be easily installed in a variety of locations from mobile vehicles to remote studios. When combined, they provide a low-latency delivery solution for Electronic News Gathering (ENG) and Broadcast Backhaul applications.

Burgess continued, “Additionally JB&A and Ambrado have created an aggressive channel program rewarding resellers for their long-term customer relationships.”

“Ambrado provided us with their HC Series systems for testing in our workflow to assist in their development efforts,” said Johnny Stigler, ENG Supervisor, WFAA-TV, “We have performed some preliminary tests using satellite and the next step will be evaluating the system’s Video-Over-IP feature for backhauling video from remote studios into the main facility in downtown Dallas, TX.”

“Ambrado video processing products are based on years of cooperative development with leading industry camera manufacturers,” said Sandeep Kumar, chairman of Ambrado. “And we can continue to perfect our CODEC algorithms delivering the best quality HD video possible since our unique hardware platform is field upgradable for future enhancements such as H.264.”

Ambrado will also demonstrate the HC1602 CODEC card, the compression engine in tapeless camera and studio equipment from leading broadcast studio equipment manufacturers worldwide and the core technology in the HC Series Systems.

The HC Series systems will also be demonstrated by IDX System Technology, Inc., in their booth C8419. IDX System Technology is an Ambrado partner.

As well as exhibiting at NAB, Ambrado is also sponsoring the NAB Destination Broadband Theater which offers informative discussions, case studies, research and top level insights on delivering and monetizing broadband content.

    Good post, but how do you know which colours will work best for your target market? I guess this is something a good graphic designer will bring to the table.
